B-Brackets ( )
E-Exponents
D-Division (In order from left to right)
M-Multiplication
A-Addition (In order from left to right)
S-Subtraction

Note:Division and Multiplication goes left to right and if you see the first number you divide it and after that you multiply it.

BEDMAS and Solution to #3

Today Mr.Isfeld taught us how to use the word BEDMAS
B= stand for Brackets ( )
E= stand for Exponents
D= stand for Division (In order form left to right)
M= stand for Multiplication
A= Stand for Addition (In order from left to right) and
S= stand for Subtraction.

Division and Multiplication goes left to right and if you see the first number you divide it and after that you multiply it.

Example:

Division and Multiplication goes to left to right and if u see the first number you divide it and after you multiply it

Problem:

John is having a party and he invites 21 people.John has $36.75 and he wants to buy cheese burgers for everyone.Cheeseburgers cost $1.75 each. Does he have enough?

Answer:Yes, John has enough to buy 21 cheese burgers for his friends.
Try to find out how he has enough.

Order of operations- The language of Math

Today we learned about the order of operation when calculating a long operation involving several different signs( e.g. addition, subtraction, division ,multiplication etc..). There is a certain way of doing this operations, the method is called BEDMAS. Which stands for

B- Brackets ( ) - it means that you should simplify first all the numbers in a bracket.

E- Exponents 23 - it means that you should simplify numbers in exponent form after you have simplified the numbers inside the brackets. 23 means 2x2x2.

D- Division
Note: Multiplication and division are like brothers, whoever comes first to them from LEFT TO RIGHT, you use that first.
M- Multiplication

A- Addition
Note: Addition and subtraction are like sisters, whoever comes first to them from LEFT TO RIGHT, you use that first.

S- Subtraction

Examples:

9094112355 ÷ 3 + 1671541346 - 2 x (50561+215125) x 2.256241=

How to do the "BEDMAS"

B - brackets ( )
E - exponents a²
D - division
⇵ in order from left to right
M - multiplication
A - addition
⇵ in order from left to right
S - subtraction

Eg. (64-34x2)+(22-3²)=
(64-64)+(22-3²)=
0+(22-3²)=
0+(22-9)=
0+13=
13=

3 questions
1.) Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7+6÷2. She claims the answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain why or why not.
No she is wrong, the write answer is 4.7. And this is how i got the answer.

2.) Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value as possible. What problem solving strategy did you use? (3x2.8)+6.4÷4 or 3x2.8+(6.4÷4)
The strategy that i used is multiplication or division. This is how I did it.
Multiplication:

Division:

3.) Create a problem that could be solved using the following expression.
2.5+1.25+5x1.6
Problem: Cody saw a cupcakes and they cost $1.60 each, then he saw big cookies that cost $2.50, then he saw a cool pen that cost $1.25. He wants to buy 1 cookie, 1 pen, and 5 cupcakes, but he only has $10.00. Does he have enough money to buy the cupcakes, cookie, and the pen?
Answer: No he doesn't have enough money to buy the cupcakes, cookie, and the pen because the 5 cupcakes, 1 cookie, and 1 pen all together cost $11.75. Here's how i got my answer.

How To Use BEDMAS

B - Brackets BEDMAS IS ABOUT FOLLOWING THE ORDER OF
E - Exponents BEDMAS TO SOLVE EQUATIONS
D - Division
M - Multiplucation
A - Addition
S - Subtraction

Note: -Division and Multiplucation goes left to right which ever one you see first, you use first.

Addition and Subtraction gors left to right which ever one you see first, you use first.
1 - 6 + 7 =
So you use subtraction first and then addition

2.5 + 1.25 + 5 x 1.6= 11.75

Bob went to the store and saw 5 video games that he liked they were $1.60 each,
then he saw 2 different kinds of chocolate bars one of them costs $2.50 and the other one costs $1.25. how much money did he spend?

Answer: $11.75.

Solution to the 3 Questions

1.) Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7 + 6 / 2. She claims the answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain why or why not?
Answer: No. She is wrong. Here is my solution.

2.) Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. What problem solving strategy did you use? 3 x 2.8 + 6.4 /(divide) 4

a.)

a.)
step1: I put brackets in 3 x 2.8.
step2: I multiplied it and got the answer 8.4.
step3: I brought all the other expressions down.
step4: I divided 6.4 / 4 and got the answer 1.6.
step5: Then I brought all the other expressions down.
step6: I added 8.4 and 1.6 and got the answer 10.

b.)

b.) step1: I put brackets in 2.8 + 6.4.
step2: I added it and got the answer 9.2.
step3: I brought all the other expressions down.
step4: I multiplied 3 x 9.2 and got the answer 27.6
step5: Then I brought all the other expressions down.
step6: I divided 27.6 / 4 and got the answer 6.9.

c.)

c.) step1: I put brackets in 6.4 / 4.
step2: I divided it and got the answer 1.6.
step3: I brought all the other expressions down.
step4: I multiplied 3 x 2.8 and got the answer 8.4.
step5: Then I brought all the other expressions down.
step6: I added 8.4 and 1.6 and got the answer 10.

Which has the largest value?
a.) 10 | b.) 6.9 | c.) 10
Answer:
a and c has the same answer. Both of them also have the largest value.

3.) Create a problem that could be solved using the following expression. 2.5 + 1.25 + 5 x 1.6.

Problem:
Joe wants to know what the answer to 2.5 + 1.25 + 5 x 1.6 is. He estimated 42.98. Do you agree? Explain why or why not?

Answer: No. He is wrong. Here is the right answer.
