Order of operation-The language of math

BEDMAS

B-Brackets
E-Exponents
D-Division
M-Multiply
A-Addition
S-Subtraction

Division,Multiply,Addition, and Subtraction is order from Left to right

( For Example )

2+3 *4
2+12=
5=

( PROBLEM )

1.) Annie had been ask to calculate 1.7+6/2.She claims the answer is 3.85.Do you agree?Explain why or why not?

I do not agree because she use addition first before Multiply. If we use the order of operation Multiplication must be first to Addition.

2.) Put Brackets in the following expression to get the Largest value possible. What problem solving strategy did you see?
3*2.8+6.4/4

3*2.8+6.4/4=
3*(2.8+6.4/4)=
3*(2.8+1.6)=
3*4.4=
13.2

3.)Create a problem that could be solved using the following expression
2.5+1.25+5*1.6

2.5+1.25+5*1.6=
(2.5+1.25)+(5 * 1.6)=
3.75+(5 * 1.6)=
3.75+8=
11.75=

How Does BEDMAS Works?

B-bracket(s)
E-exponent(s)
D-division
M-multiplication
A-addition
S-subtraction
NOTE:DIVISION,MULTIPLICATION,ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION HAVE TO BE IN ORDER FROM LEFT TO RIGHT.

EXAMPLE:

SOLUTION:

1. Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7+6/2. She claims the answer is 3.85.Do you agree?Explain why or why not.
No,I disagree because the right answer is 4.7 and this how I got it:

2. Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. What problem solving strategy did you use? 3x2.8+6.4/4

3.Create a problem that could be solved using the following expression. 2.5+1.25+5x1.6
Francesca is planing to buy school supplies. A pen cost $2.50,a pencil cost $1.25, a 100 piece of loose leaf cost $5.00 and a scribbler cost $1.60. How much total does Francesca have to pay over all?The answer is $1.75 and here's how I got it:

Garfield St. N. held their annual marathon contest. The ladies ages 15-25 yrs.old ran 2.5 km,boys and girls ages 9-14 ran 1.25 km,men ages 20-30 ran 5 km and senior citizens ran 1.6 km.How much is the total kilometer that in the marathon contest? Here's how I got my answer:
