Number of the Day (8-14)
8. Power- A base with an exponent is a power.
- Write a power using the digit in the 100th (1234.567) place as the base and the digit in the 10s (1234.567) place as the exponent. 6³
9. Power in factor form
- 6 x 6 x 6= 216
- Six ,three times...not six times three.
10. Cube - means three dimensional (3D)
- L x W x H = N(umber) x N x N = N³
- Cube the digit in ones place - 4 x 4 x 4 = 4³
11. Squared - means it has two dimensional (2D)
- L x W = N(umber) x N = N²
- Square the digit in hundreds place - 2 x 2 = 2²
12. Use a calculator,
- 1234.567 ÷ 3.55 = 347.7653521
- Look at the given nearest place value...
- Make the numbers that end in 1 through 4 into the next lower number that ends in 0. For example 74 rounded to the nearest ten would be 70.
- Numbers that end in a digit of 5 or more should be rounded up to the next even ten. The number 88 rounded to the nearest ten would be 90.
14. Prime numbers- numbers with 2 factor, one and itself, not 1 or 3 more.
- 3, 5, 7 are prime numbers of 1234.567
