Math Exam Review (Page 6)

Divisible- means when a number can be divided by another number, with no remainder or decimal. It should be a whole number.

Always remember when you're adding and subtracting fractions, you should always simplify (put it into lowest terms)

Here is a LINK of where you can learn facts about divisibility
But, If you want to learn about Adding and Subtracting fractions, here is also a LINK.

Math notes for June 2, 2011

Practice: Show every step... then check

A+4=10
6+4=10
10=10

Use reverse order of operation, what you do the first one, you have to do to the other. (As you can see when we used reverse order of operation the first time, we also did the same at the end)

Here are some other practices we did:

CHECK:
B-2=5
7-2=5
5=5

CHECK:
3c=21
3x7=21
c=7

CHECK:
2j+1=9
2(4)+1=9
8+1=9
9=9

CHECK:
f÷3-2=1
9÷3-2=1
3-2=1
1=1

Here is a LINK where you can practice with algebra.

Here is also a VIDEO about equations.

*I was having trouble with the video, so just click the link and you will get to it! :)

Order of Operations - B.E.D.M.A.S

B-Brackets

E-Exponents

D-Division

M-Multiplication

A-Addition

S-Subtraction

Division and Multiplication goes from left to right and if you see the first number you divide it and then you multiply it.

Solution to question #3

Liya went to the bookstore and bought 5 books, each book costs $1.60. She also wanted to buy a bookmark, 1 bookmark costs $1.25, When she saw a really cool pen, she also wanted to buy it, 1 pen cost $2.50. Liya has $15.00, Does she have enough money for the total costs?

Answer: Yes, because the total cost is $11.75, and she has $15.00.

Questions:

1.) Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7 + 6÷2. She claims the answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain why or why not.
Answer: Annie is wrong because the right answer is 4.7 . Here is the solution:

2.) Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. What strategy did you use?
Answer: I used multiplication or division as my strategy. Here's how I did it.

3.) Zack wants to buy a ruler that cost 1.60 each, then he saw a book that cost 2.50 and he saw a package of pens that cost 1.25. He want to buy 1 book, 1 package of pens and 5 rulers, but he only has $ 8.00. Does he have enough money to buy all those things?
Answer: No. Zack doesn't have enough money to buy those things because 1 book, 1 package of pens and 5 rulers cost $ 11.75. Here is my solution:

Homework for page 20-21 question number 1-4

1.Estimate 6.6 divided by 2.3

6 divided by 2 = 3 > The answer e.) Front- end estimation

Front-end estimation is the highest place value when estimating.

2. (The picture shown in the booklet) Estimate 6.6 divided by 2 = 3

                      6 divided by 2 = 3 underestimate

                       8 divided by 2 = 4 overestimate

The answer is a.) Number line estimation

Number line estimation is when you use number line on estimating.

3. [C] 25.73 [ divided by] 3.1 [=] 8.3

24 divided by 3 = 8

27 divided by 3= 9

The estimate suggest an answer between 8 and 9. The answer 8.3 is reasonable.

The answer is b.) Estimate, then use a calculator

4. Divide 20.4 divided by 3.

(The picture shown in the booklet) <3>

                                                              <3>

21 divided by 3 = 7

The answer is around 7. The decimal point goes between the 6 and 8.

The answer for this question is c.) Divided as whole numbers, then estimate to place the decimal

Question for 18 and 22.

18. An package of 500 sheets of paper has a measured height of 51.5 mm.

Question: A) Estimate the thickness of a sheet of paper.

Answer: I estimate that the thickness of a sheet of paper is 0.1 mm.

Question:B) Is the actual thickness of a sheet of paper greater or less than your estimate?
how you know.

Answer: The actual thickness of a sheet of paper is greater the estimated one.Because i rounded 51.5 to 52

22) kyle entered in a snowmobile race.He has to do 5 laps on a 6.37-km course.His time for each lap is 1.35 min, 1.27 min,1.23 min, and 1.22 min.

Question: A) How long does it take him to do 5 laps?
Answer: It take 6.49 mins to finish 5 laps.

Question: B) What is his average speed? Round your answer to the neareast hundreth.
Answer: His average speed is 1.29.

Correction for number 7

Question:
From the origin,where would you move to plot the ordered pair (4,0)?
a)up 4 units c)left 4 units
b)right 4 units d)down 4 units

Answer:
The answer is: B right 4 units

I hope this things help you!

Correction for number 21

Describe the type of transformation needed in each of the following:
a) turning the knob to open the door - rotation
b) a bicycle chain moving- translation
c) a wheel turning- transformation
d) looking in to a mirror- reflection

Correction for number 11

Completion
Complete each statement.

Question: A line of reflection is also called a (n)

Answer: Mirror line.

Correction For #9

Question:Which point on the coordinate grid has coordinate (-1,2)
a)A
b)B
c)C
d)D
Answer: b)B

Corrections for Question 13

Question: A figure resulting from a transformation is called a(n)__________.

Answer: A figure resulting from a transformation is called a(n) image.

Here is a picture that will give you a better understanding.

The Original copy is translated 10 units right then 2 units down. Then turns into an Image because it was transformed.

If you need practice on plotting points on a coordinate grid, visit this website to let you practice.

I hoped that helped you!

Correction on number 21

Describe letter a. type of transformation needed:

A.) turning a knob to a open door

The answer is Rotation.

The answer is because if you try to do it in real life, you will notice that the door knob will turn either counterclockwise or clockwise same as the rotation. The rotation will depend on the degrees it will rotate. It either rotate on 90, 180, 360 and etc.

Correction for number 10

Question: In which quadrant is the point with coordinates (11, -6)?
a.I
b.II
c.III
d.IV

Solution: Look at this coordinate grid:

-If you can see there is a line going up (Vertical) and going side (Horizontal).They are also called Y axis and X axis. Y axis is the line that goes up and it is always in the last when you write the coordinate of a point.
-While the side line (Vertical) or X Axis is the line that goes sideways and it is always in the first when you write the coordinate grid of a point.

-When plotting a points in a coordinate grid, always look for the number in the X axis, Vertical, Side line first and finally you should look again for the number that you're looking for in the Y axis, Horizontal, Up line.
-A coordinate grid is compose of 4 parts (Quadrant I, II, III, IV)
-In the middle of a coordinate grid there is a 0 there. 0 is either Positive or negative,It is also calles the origin

-So if we plot (11, -6) in a coordinate grid.Which Quadrant the point will plot?

Rotation

Rotations can be clockwise or counterclockwise. A rotation can be turned or rotated by degrees such as 90 degrees 180 and 360 degress. But every rotation has a centre of rotation. The centre of rotation is mostly located on the the origin.

The origin is located in the middle of the vertical and horizontal number line. You can also call it (0,0) in the coordinate grid.
