Number of the Day 17-25

The number of the day is 8675.309

17) Using the digits in the 1s and the 10s place respectively make a two digit number and write the prime factors.

Because of respectively make a two digit number you have to use the order that they said first which was the ones place, so the number in the 1s place is 5 then the 7 is in the 10s place. Now you make a number using that order so 57.

Because the prime factor itself is a prime number the only factors are 1 and itself.
So the prime factors are 57 and 1.

18) Add negative 2 to the digit in the 10s place using pictures.

-2+ 7=5

Diagram: There is two negatives - - and there is 7 postives + + + + + + +
So its asking to add them together. If your adding a negative number and a postive number what ever number in the equation is bigger thats the kind of number you'll get. Ex. -3+4.
4 is bigger than 3 so the symbol you'll have a postive. So now you have to make a zero pair. You have 2 negatives and 7 postives. You have enough +s so you put 2 negatives and postives together -+ -+ and you imaginaryly throw them away. Now you are left with +++++ and thats your answer.

19) Subtract negative 3 from the digit in the ones place using pictures

5-(-3)= +2

This is because you have five positives +++++ and 3 negatives - - - . Then you have to take away negatives, so you have enough postives so you make your zero pairs. So you end up taking away 3 zero pairs. +- +- +- and your are left with 2 positives + +. and thats you answer!!

20) Write a fraction using the 1000s place as the denominator and the tenths places as the numerator.

8675.309 in this number 8 is in the thousands place and 3 is in the tenths place.

If 8 is the denominator then its at the bottom blank/8 so now 4 is at the top 4/8 you can still simplify this into 1/2.

21) Use any 2 digits to make an improper fraction.

Just to remind you an improper fraction is a fraction where the numerator is bigger than the denominator.

So now you just choose 2 numbers where the numerator will be bigger than the denominator. Like: 8/5 , 7/6 and 9/3. You try and find the rest of the improper fractions.

22) Use any digits to make a mixed fraction.

A mixed fraction is a fraction where it has a whole number and a proper fraction.

Now just choose a number for a whole number, and number for a numerator and a number for the denominator. Make sure the numerator isnt bigger than the denominator or that will become a improper fraction. Like 3 4/8

23) Write the answer to the number 22 as a decimal.

3 4/8 So you first you know that you can simplify it so 4/8 is now 1/2. so its 3 1/2. Now you divide, so 1 divided by 2 then you'll get .5. Now you have the whole left so its 3.5

24) Draw a picture to represent the answer to number 22

Okay now you had 3 4/8 right? So there was 3 wholes, and 4/8 when i drew mine I did mine simplified into 1/2.
25) Write the answer is 21 as a percent.

Because there was alot of ways to make an improper fraction I will just pick one.

6/5 is my improper fraction. So now you just divide the numerator with the denominator. So its 6 divided by 5 is 1.2 then you multiply it by a hundred.

OR

You can do this...

Here is a song that will help you with integers.

If This video doesn't work just go to this link to see the video !!!!!!! INTEGERS!!!
And If my post gets all spaced again it just does that by itself sometimes.

Here is a game to help you with adding and subtracting integers because I think that is the hardest thing to do in this whole thing. XD

HOPE THIS HELLPED!!

Subtracting Like Denominators

*Subtracting Like Denominators*

When you are subtracting like denominators you subtract the numerators and not the denominators, so the denominator will stay the same.

For example

2/3-1/3=1/3 because 2-1=1 then you leave the denominator the same.

5/6-1/6=4/6 you can't just leave this fraction the same because you can still simplify it.

You simplify until both numbers can not be divisible by the same number.

Or find the greatest common factor for both numbers and divide the numerator and denominator by it.

So 4/6 will be 2/3 because the greatest common factor is 2.

Try these questions for practice :D Simplify them if they can be simplified.

1.3/7-2/7=

2.4/10-2/10=

3.24/30-12/30=

*Answers to see if your wrong or not :D*

*GCF* stands for greatest common factor.

answering marlo's question

Marlo's question was If two dice are thrown in the air at the same time, what is the probability that the sum of the two numbers turn up less than 11?

A) 5/6
B)11/12
C)1/6
D)1/12

The answer is B) 11/12 because
1+1=2
1+2=3
1+3=4
1+4=5
1+5=6
1+6=7
You have an idea XD haha. The rest of the probabilities have a total under 12 except for 6+6 because it equals 12

Answering Rose's Probability question

The question was What is the p(white) marble? Express as fraction, ratio and percent.

There are eight marbles and there are 4 white marbles, so the favorable outcome is 4 over possible outcome which is 8

Fraction: 4/8 but you can still simplify it so it is 1/2 because you can divide 8 & 4 by two.

Ratio: 1:2

percent: 50% because if you divide 1 by 2 you get .5 then you turn it into a percent.

textbook questions4-6

4. Determine the area of each parallelogram. I drew the same shape again beside it so you can see it better.

Answer:a) A=bxh
A=4x1
A=4cm2
b) A=bxh
A=3x3
A=9cm2

These are the answers because for a) 4 cm is the base because the height which is 1 cm is perpendicular to the base. Then all you have to do it multiply 4 x 1= 4 then put centimeter squared which is just a little 2 after the cm. Then do the same thing for b.

5. Draw each of the following parallelograms on a centimeter grid paper. Use the formula to determine the area of each parallelogram.

Answer: This is the answer for a) because the height is 5 cm high and the base is 4 cm wide of the parallelogram.the dotted line is the 5 cm for height because the rule is that the height has to equal 90 degrees when it reaches the base. Just like how a parallelogram is counted as a rectangle also. Then I just multiplied 4 cm x 5 cm.

6. Draw each parallelogram on centimeter grid paper.Determine each area using the formula.

Answer:a) A=bxh
A=4x6
A=24cm2 I don;t think I need to explain again because by now you should know because this was the same thing we just did earlier.
b) A=bxh
A=4x7
A=28cm2

Math corrections for number 9

___9. Which point on the coordinate grid has he coordinates (-1,2)

a. A
b. B

c. C
d. D

It is letter b because it says (-1,2) right so you go 1 unit left from the origin on the x-axis. Then go up 2 units on the y-axis. It ends up in quadrant II.

Do this to help you learn about plotting points :D

Here is a video that might help you also it starts off with a number line that is half of the Cartesian plane then it will go to the coordinate grid and teach you about plotting points.

I hope this helps you (:
